STEWARDS HOUSE – A SPACIOUS AND TIMELESS HOLIDAY HOME IN IRELAND

Once home to the estate’s farm manager, Stewards House is now a warm, light-filled self-catering cottage designed for togetherness and ease. The largest of the Clonalis cottages, this four-bedroom hideaway sleeps up to eight and invites families and friends to slow down and simply be.

The cottage houses four inviting bedrooms, two doubles and two twins, with a shared family bathroom and a shower room, offering the understated familiarity and comfort of everyday living.

There are spaces to come together. Two generous sitting rooms, each with a wood-burning stove and original 17th-century fireplace, evoke a desire for the comfort of a rainy day. Gather around the large dining table for hearty, home-cooked meals with loved ones, or turn the evening into your own cosy movie night, wrapped in blankets with flickering firelight for company.

And there are spaces to let go and embrace the stillness. Deep armchairs made for reading, quiet corners for unhurried conversations, accompanied by the gentle whisper of crackling fire and the soft hush of woodland just beyond the windows.

Step outside to leafy trails and long summer evenings spent grilling in the courtyard as the sun fades behind the trees. And when cooler months arrive, it’s all about fireside games, slow dinners, and that deep sense of calm only the countryside can offer.

If you’re seeking a family-friendly holiday home in Ireland, rich in soul, space, and timeless charm, Stewards House offers something quietly special. Whether it’s a cherished family break, a gathering of old friends, or time to settle into the rhythm of nature, this lovingly restored cottage in Roscommon invites you to press pause and embrace the restorative power of slow living.

We just wrapped up our week long stay at the adorable Mews Cottage and have to say it was a wonderful experience! The cottage is super cozy and comfortable with all the essentials, it’s in a beautiful location, and there are plenty of things to do nearby. Carol-Anne and her husband are top notch hosts: responsive, attentive, and friendly. They both went out of their way to ensure we had a great experience while staying on their estate! If your trip takes you to this area of Ireland, I highly recommend this cottage and host!

A lovely cottage set in beautiful surroundings of the Clonalis estate. The location is on the doorstep of Castlerea town centre, with the benefit of supermarkets and cafes within minutes of your front door. The location though feels a world away from the town, as there are huge grounds to explore with river and woodland walks all part of this historic home. The rooms are spacious and traditionally decorated, and we made use of the wood burning fire. Carol-Anne kept in touch throughout our stay and ensured we were well looked after. It’s a unique place to stay, with the feel of being rural but also so close to the town and has all that you need from a holiday home.

An absolutely stunning location. As you enter through the gates and head up the sweeping drive, you immediately feel you are heading somewhere exceptional. Carol-Anne greeted us, showed us around the accommodation and then recommended local things to do, places to eat. She delivered fresh farm eggs one day and another homemade cookies and shortbread. This was a lovely surprise and incredibly tasty. The accommodation and grounds are stunning and we can highly recommend.

We’ve just returned from a spectacular stay at our cottage – wonderful hosts, idyllic surroundings, homely and beautifully presented cottage, with thought gone into every detail – in summary – a haven of peace and tranquillity to enable you to unwind and relax but only a stone’s throw from the shops and restaurants of Castlerea and Ballyhaunis! An A star experience and we will certainly be back. Thanks to Carol-Anne

The host and her entire Family were very lovely and helpful, with fast and proactive communication. The cottage features all amenities described and has a homely flair. We stayed at the Steward’s House for one week over the Christmas period. We were two families with a mix of adults and children. The cottage was even better than expected. There are two living rooms, each with a wood burner and there was an ample supply of wood to last the duration of our stay. The facilities in the cottage are first class and there was even a dog bowl provided! We walked each day into the nearby town where there are pubs and cafes as well as two large supermarkets. The cottage was already decorated for Christmas when we arrived which made for a really welcoming environment. Carol-Anne responded to the few queries we had within minutes and we will definitely return to stay at Clonalis again the next time we visit Ireland. Can’t recommend highly enough.
