Food & Drink
A BIT OF FLAIR.”
MARGUERITE O’CONOR NASH
SIMPLE AND HEARTFELT
You might come here for a quiet escape but you’ll stay for the food. Don’t be fooled by the homely humming from the kitchen; the slant is pedigreed Irish countryside delivered with plenty of passion. Kick off those wellies and treat yourself to menus of hearty, unfussy and delicious food using the best seasonal produce from local artisan producers and suppliers and ingredients foraged from the estate.
FUEL FOR THE SOUL
It all starts with a welcome of tea and home baked treat in the library and the famous homemade breakfast served by the fire in the Butler’s Pantry: homemade jams, croissants, freshly squeezed orange juice, compotes, yoghurts, granola, breads, cheeses and eggs from the estate’s free-range hens and a most welcome ‘full Irish’ if you’ve happened upon a few too many night caps in the library.
AN INTIMATE AND RELAXED DINING SPACE
Enjoy some fine dining and a wonderful meal in the unhurried atmosphere of our elegant dining room under the watchful gaze of family portraits. Choose your own private table or opt for communal dining at the long table which usually ends in new friends and lots of fun. There’s also a more informal three-course kitchen supper in the Butler’s Pantry.
ENJOY A TIPPLE BY A ROARING FIRE
Richard, who has recently taken over from his mother Marguerite, grew up among a family of hosts and from his mother learnt the importance of good quality ingredients and of using food to shape an atmosphere, sourcing whatever isn’t grown on site – duck, lamb, pheasant, oysters, cheese, for example – from local farms, fisheries and purveyors.
After dinner, raconteurs Pyers and family might mix you a fireside drink in the library or you can take it al fresco to the terrace parterre from which the parkland falls away.
