The original Irish for the name O’Conor is Ua Conchobhair which was anglicised in various forms. In the case of the O’Con(n)ors of Connacht the name derives from Conchobhair, King of Connacht in AD 971. The name ‘Ua Conchobair’ literally meaning ‘from Conor’ or grandson of Conor.
